The four questions this page answers

  1. 1

    What you buy

What you buy here is a remote technical assessment of a system your business depends on but that has become slow, unsupported or impossible to change — and a staged modernisation roadmap with a cost against each stage. Building those stages is not included in this price: each is quoted separately once you have the roadmap, and you are free to stop after the assessment or take it to somebody else.

  2. 2

    What you get

4 deliverables, listed in full below

    • A written assessment and risk report on the existing system
    • A staged modernisation roadmap with a cost against each stage
    • Written technical documentation of the existing system, which usually has none
    + 1 more
  3. 3

    How it is delivered

    Remote Setup

Carried out remotely by our team. Nothing is posted and no one visits.

  4. 4

    How long it takes

2–3 weeks for assessment; stages quoted separately

Measured from the point everything under “what we need from you” is with us, not from the moment you pay.

What is this, in plain English?

What you buy here is a remote technical assessment of a system your business depends on but that has become slow, unsupported or impossible to change — and a staged modernisation roadmap with a cost against each stage. Building those stages is not included in this price: each is quoted separately once you have the roadmap, and you are free to stop after the assessment or take it to somebody else.

Old systems survive because they work and because replacing them is frightening. We reduce the fear by going in stages: assess honestly, then — if it is warranted — put an interface around the old system so new work can begin, then replace one capability at a time with the option to stop at any point. This purchase covers the first part only: the assessment, the risk report and the costed roadmap, delivered as written documents. Every build stage on that roadmap is quoted separately, so you never commit to a rewrite before you have seen what it involves. Sometimes the honest recommendation after assessment is to leave the system alone, and we will tell you that.

The problem it solves

A critical system runs on something nobody supports, the person who built it has gone, and every proposed change is answered with "we cannot touch that".

If that does not describe you, this is probably the wrong product. Tell us and we will point you at a better fit rather than sell you the nearest one.

What you get

The concrete things that exist at the end and that you own.

4 deliverables

  • A written assessment and risk report on the existing system
  • A staged modernisation roadmap with a cost against each stage
  • Written technical documentation of the existing system, which usually has none
  • A scoping note for the first stage, which you can commission separately or take elsewhere

What's included

The work covered by the figure in the buy box, at no extra cost.

  • Technical assessment
  • Risk report
  • Staged roadmap
  • System documentation
  • A scoping session on the first stage

Not seeing something you expected? Check what you are not buying before you order.

What does it do?

Everything listed here is delivered as part of this product. Nothing on this list is aspirational.

  • A technical assessment of what the system does and what it runs on
  • An honest risk report, including the findings you may not want to hear
  • A staged modernisation roadmap costed stage by stage
  • Written documentation of a system that probably has none
  • A recommendation on wrapping the old system in an API so new work can start before replacement
  • A stage sequence you can stop between, rather than a single committed rewrite

How it works

The delivery sequence from order to handover.

  1. 1

Assess — included in this price

What it does, what it runs on, what the real risks are, and what a replacement would take.

  2. 2

Recommend — included in this price

A staged roadmap with a cost per stage, including, where it is the right answer, a recommendation not to proceed at all.

  3. 3

    Wrap — quoted separately

If the roadmap calls for it, an interface around the old system so new development is unblocked immediately. Commissioned as its own piece of work.

  4. 4

    Replace incrementally — quoted separately

One capability at a time, each independently verifiable, each its own commissioned stage.

  5. 5

    Decommission — quoted separately

The old system is retired only once nothing depends on it.

Delivery & fulfilment

Stream Edge Solutions ships nothing. Every package on this site is carried out and handed over remotely — this is exactly what happens after you order.

REMOTE SERVICEHow this is delivered
  1. 1We confirm requirementsWe read what you sent with the order, come back in writing with anything missing, and agree the scope before any chargeable work starts.
  2. 2We build and configure remotelySetup, configuration and testing are done by our team over a remote connection — on your systems or on ours, whichever the package specifies.
  3. 3We hand it overYou receive the working setup, the credentials, the documentation and a walkthrough. Everything built for you is yours at handover.

Carried out remotely by our team. Nothing is posted and no one visits. Typical turnaround: 2–3 weeks for assessment; stages quoted separately.

Full detail of how work is handed over, what happens if requirements are outstanding and how order records are kept is in the Delivery & Fulfilment Policy.

What we need from you

Nothing starts until these are in place, and the turnaround above is measured from that point — not from the moment you pay.

  • Access to the running system and, where it exists, its source code and database
  • Time with whoever knows how it works, and any documentation that survives
  • A named decision-maker to receive the assessment, including a recommendation not to proceed

Who this is for

  • Businesses running unsupported or undocumented software
  • Companies whose systems block changes they need to make
  • Organisations dependent on one person’s knowledge
  • Businesses facing an end-of-life platform

Business needs this addresses: Improve operations, Integrate systems, Improve IT infrastructure

What's not included

Just as plainly as the list above: the things this package is not.

  • Implementation of the roadmap stages, each quoted individually after assessment
  • Any guarantee about third-party or vendor components the old system depends on — the assessment is the feasibility review, and where a vendor exposes no route forward it says so plainly
  • Licence or hardware costs for replacement platforms
  • Guarantees about a system whose source code may be partly unavailable
  • A fixed total price before assessment — quoting one would be a guess

Anything outside the scope above is quoted separately, in writing, before it is carried out. Nothing is added to your bill without your agreement.

FAQs

Why is only the assessment priced?

Because nobody can honestly price the replacement of a system they have not examined. The assessment gives you a real roadmap with real numbers, and you are free to take it elsewhere.

Might you tell us not to do it?

Yes, and it happens. A stable system that does its job is sometimes better left running with a support wrapper than replaced for the sake of modernity.

What if the source code is missing?

Then options narrow considerably, and the assessment will say so plainly rather than proposing a plan that cannot be delivered.

Refund & cancellation

What happens if you change your mind, and what happens to money already paid.

Cooling-off before work starts
You have 7 days after ordering to cancel while work has not yet begun. Up to 25% may be retained to cover scoping and scheduling already carried out.
Work already done
Once delivery has started, refunds are assessed against the work completed and the deliverables already handed over — the list under “what you get” above is what that assessment is made against. Approved refunds are processed within 14 days.
If we cannot deliver what is described here
You are refunded. The scope on this page is the scope we are held to, which is exactly why the exclusions above are stated before you buy rather than after.

The full terms, item type by item type, are in the Refund & Cancellation Policy. How the work reaches you is covered by the Delivery & Fulfilment Policy.

Not sure this is the right product?

We would rather point you at the right thing than sell you the nearest one. Ask us before you buy — no obligation.
